Navajo bracelet with UITA hallmark
Navajo bracelet with UITA hallmark
Navajo cuff bracelet with large oval turquoise cab set in a silver “picture frame” with beautiful stampling and wirework. UITA 23 hallmark.
coin silver and turquoise
5 1/8” interior; opening in the back: 1 3/8” diameter
This beautiful bracelet not only has an exquisite oval cabouchon turquoise stone surrounded by very well-executed silver work, but it is also hallmarked with "UITA 23". UITA stands for United Indian Trade Association, which was formed in 1931 to make sure that jewelry sold in Navajo style was in fact Navajo-made. Today, we only know what a few of the numbers after the UITA stand for (which artists or studios), and unfortunately I can't find any information on UITA 23. Nevertheless, UITA jewelry has always been highly regarded and is highly collectible.
The dimensions given above refer to the INSIDE dimensions of the bracelet, as those are the dimensions that will help the collector determine the actual size of the cuff. **TO FIND YOUR BRACELET SIZE: Using a flexible tape measure or strip of paper, measure your wrist just below the bone (about where you would wear your bracelet). If you want the bracelet to fit tightly, add circa 1/4-1/2” to that measurement. If it you want it looser, add a bit more. Experiment to see what would feel comfortable. If these directions confuse you, please contact me and I will email you photos of a bracelet being measured.
