We are in the midst of creating a new category under Native American Jewelry: Contemporary Jewelry. This section will feature Navajo, Zuni, and Hopi jewelry made from 1960 until today.
The best jewelry from this period is marketable on the secondary market. Think of artists Charles Loloma and Lee Yazzie, both of whom have had major museum exhibits of their work. Be sure also to visit "Glittering World: Navajo Jewelry of the Yazzie Family", currently at the National Museum of the American Indian in New York (Bowling Green). This exhibit will run until January 10, 2016. (http://www.nmai.si.edu/explore/exhibitions/item/?id=890)
While you are at the National Museum of the American Indian in New York, also visit the ongoing exhibit "Infinity of Nations: Art and History in the Collections in the National Museum of the American Indian". (http://www.nmai.si.edu/explore/exhibitions/item/?id=901) Outstanding examples from many tribes are exhibited.
