Raphael Dominguez (1911-1980) was a renowned silversmith in Taxco, Mexico. He was part of the Silver Renaissance there, having studied with William Spratling and eventually opening and owning his own Taller with his wife Juana.
This beautiful pin is made out of 980 silver (980/1000, which is very high silver content). Silver has alloys added to it to make it workable. The higher the silver content, the harder it is to work. Many artists in Taxco began to work with 925, which is Sterling Silver, because it is easier to work. This information helps us to date this pin to 1950-1970.
