The Pomo Indians of California have long been recognized as among the finest weavers in the world. They wove baskets using many different techniques, including several different methods of twining and several methods of coiling.
This basket is an example of single-rod coiling. It is a small gift basket that has survived in excellent condition.
The Pomos continue their weaving tradition today.
