Tammy Garcia is undoubtedly one of the finest contemporary Pueblo artists and her work has already stood the test of time.  Her pottery is innovative within the boundaries of traditional incised coiled pottery and it is fired in a natural reduction atmosphere. Her ancestors include Sara Fina Tafoya and Margaret Tafoya along with her sister Christina Naranjo, Mary Cain, and Linda Cain, her mother. 

When she was only 21, Tammy was awarded a first prize at the Gallup Intertribal Ceremonials. By 1991, Gallery 10 in Scottsdale and Santa Fe, a leading gallery, was featuring her work in major shows. Tammy was admitted to the Santa Fe Indian Market, a juried show in 1993.  

This pot is one of the very few of her pots that have come up for sale in the secondary market. It is a very early example, having been collected in 1992.
