Historic Acoma and Laguna Pueblo pottery is very similar. The two pueblos are relatively close together and people from these pueblos often intermarried, resulting in the sharing of design motifs. Most academicians today agree that Historic Acoma and Laguna pots cannot be differentiated from each other.
The natural clay from these pueblos has kaolin in it, which strengthens the clay, as it also does in porcelain. Because of this, the potter is able to form the walls of Acoma/Laguna and Zuni pottery with thinner walls than pottery from other Pueblos. The clay is white.
This Acoma jar is stunning with its beautiful design elements and fine paint, reminiscent of earlier pottery. In addition, the positive/negative contrast is strong. These are features for which collectors search.
Please feel free to request more views. All are superb. This is priced very reasonably and offers a terrific opportunity for a serious collector to own a great Acoma pot.
