Offering this basket for sale has been a very interesting experience for me. This basketry bowl is quite rare. I have consulted with two knowledgeable people who have differing opinions, one saying it is Mission and another saying it is Tubatulabal. It is clearly Californian.

The Tubatulabal lived in the Kern Valley in California and were a relatively small group of people. Their baskets are frequently confused with the neighboring Kawaiisu.

This is a fantastic basket as well as a very interesting one. It merits being preserved in a collection.
