These earrings are unsigned, as one would expect from the period in which they were made. The Zuni did not begin to add hallmarks until after World War II. However, it is possible to make a strong attribution that John Gordon Leak (Leakity) was the artist, given the design and the very high quality of silver work and channel inlay. Leakity is considered to be one of the truly great Zuni artists.

 C G Wallace was the trader at Zuni during the early period of Zuni channel and mosaic work. He was the patron of the great early silver artists at Zuni.  He gave his collection to Parke Bernet for auction and identified each piece as to maker. Unfortunately, he listed Leakity's name as John Gordon Leak; thus, the confusion today over whether it was made by John Gordon Leak or John Gordon Leakity. Ernie Bulow has researched this subject thoroughly and concludes that Leak and Leakity are in fact the same person (http://www.atada.org/atadanews/cATADA3-14web-new.pdf).
