This Lakota pipebag was made soon after the Lakota were confined to Reservation. Its imagery clearly reflects traditional life but it also includes many American flags, perhaps as a symbol of prowess in battle or power or perhaps as part of a village scene with dominance by the American military. It has descended in a family in remarkable condition. Both sides are beautiful.
