Large storage jars like this were infrequently collected. They are difficult to make and they were very difficult to ship on the railroads. Rather, they were used until they fell apart. They generally stored grain. Supporting this statement is the fact that the pot has a rounded bottom, more easily stored on a pueblo's dirt floor. In addition, pottery from Kewa (Santo Domingo) was made for sale less frequently than pottery in other pueblos.
This jar is quite beautiful with a polychrome bird alternating with an intriguing spiral design. It is priced very reasonably and offers the collector an opportunity to own an early and rare pot.
