The use of this rare and valued dye indicates that the woman depicted has a great deal of stature. In fact, the figure represents Spiderwoman as she emerges from the Lower World, in effect giving birth to the Navajo people. The other designs are variants of what is known as the Spiderwoman cross, an abstracted way to represent Spiderwoman and the creation myth. The 8 pointed star motif is known as the Rio Grande star, a clear result of the exposure of the weaver to Rio Grande weavings of the Southwest which were woven by Hispanics who had settled in the Southwest.

This textile clearly illustrates the real life of the weaver, as she has included multi-cultural influences that she experienced in her daily life as well as the Navajo creation story that she clearly knew.
